West District Cross Country Championships

Again, slanted towards my own experience.
For the 4th time in 5 years, the venue for the West District Cross Country Championships was the Royal Academy in Irvine though the course itself was altered enough to present a different challenge. However, variety is the spice of life. A change in location in 2010 wouldn't go amiss. As far as cross country courses go, it is not too bad. The wind and rain stayed away and there were only a few puddles to contend with.

RHC battle the mud and rain to prove strongest club in Lanarkshire once again.

Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers had a good turnout at the Lanarkshire cross country championships at a water-logged Drumpellier Park on Saturday and emerged once again as the top Lanarkshire team overall. Niamh Brown set the standard in the opening event when she came first in the under 11 girls and with good support from Laura McNeil and Lauren Carey the club took team silver.  The under 11 boys equalled this team performance thanks to Grant McGregor, Ryan Stephen and Adam Hamilton. Eve McKinnon finished third in the under

UK Cross Country Challenge in Gateshead

UK Cross Country Challenge in Gateshead report by Stuart G. It all started on Friday, departing the sports club around 5pm. One minibus and a few cars zoomed on their way. The other minibus, 30 minutes in, stopped at Abington services to allow some passengers a comfort break then never got going again. Gear stick problems, it wouldn't click in. A vehicle cannot go anywhere stuck in neutral. Not to worry, a phone call to Mitchells promised a replacement bus in 60-90 minutes. In we went for dinner and refreshments.

British & Irish Masters XC International, Birmingham

4 club athletes competed for the Scottish team at the annual British & Irish Masters XC International at Perry Barr, Birmingham on Saturday 14th November 2009. After a preceding day of incessant rain and a weather warning of gale force winds, David Fairweather was first off in the 6k M65 race. The course consisted of a 2km loop without any killer hills, except for the final 150 metres of the race.

Following the blistering success of the 5 autumn sessions, Ronhill Cambuslang coach’s forum  would like to issue an open invitation to all members to come along and participate in the winter Saturday morning training sessions.

The winter programme is aimed primarily for athletes to peak for National cross country championship in February of next year. The sessions however will form an essential and valuable contribution of endurance athletes training regime.

Calderglen Harriers 10 Mile Road Race on 12/09/09 by Stuart Gibson

Robert Gilroy and myself were 2 of 93 runners to line up for this road race
yesterday, resurrected for one year only after an approximate 20 year
absence for Calderglen Harriers' 25th anniversary. Judging by the
severity of the course, I doubt it will be back by popular demand. The
start and finish were a 5 minute drive from the house so there was no
excuse for me.

We set off at 10am sharp from the start in Kelvin Industrial Estate
onto a long straight stretch down Greenhills Road towards Morrisons
