A great team effort by the vets down at chilly Irvine was the order of the day as RHC easily retained the Scottish Masters XC team title, with some great individual performances as well.

A busy few weeks has resulted in more silverware for our talented athletes.
Congratulations to Stewart Orr who won the West District indoor under 17's 1500m championships and also to Stevie Wylie and Kerry Wilson who finished 1st and 3rd at the Jack Crawford Springburn 10k. Unfortunately there was no 3rd runner to help win the team prize.

In the summer of 2008, Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers became one of only 3 clubs in Scotland to have successfully completed and be awarded the scottishathletics Clubmark programme - an accreditation process for athletic clubs across the UK.
The following is an extract from the associated press release:

Inter District Cross Country Championships Venue: Edinburgh 10 January, 2009
The following 8 athletes have been selected to represent the West District (and North) next Saturday, 10th January 2009 in Edinburgh. Well done on your selection and everyone at the club hopes you have a great run:

Why 50 miles off-road in Rotherham in the middle of December? Simple, it's a qualifier for the West Highland Way race 2009. I wanted to get that out of the way this year. The race is designed to be run unsupported. The route is broken into 8 stages, with 7 checkpoints serving basic snacks and drinks. The course is completely unmarked and follows a series of paths, rights of way, fields crossings etc So you need to navigate yourself round. Everyone I spoke to said 2 things, 1) you’ll get lost, 2) the mud.

Results are now onsite, just click on the race link on the left menu, photos from the race are also available in our photo gallery

Our over 50 team of Tom McPake, Freddy Connor, Frankie Barton, Archie Jenkins, Jim Zaple and Frank Hurley finished a creditable 8th in the Masters UK Road Relay Champs at Sutton Park. Well done! It was good to see Freddy and Frank making a comeback after a period of illness/injuries.

Cambuslang athletes returned from the West District and Closed Senior Championships at Meadowbank, with three district medals, and with many others recording personal best performances.
Ross Stephen picked up the first medal of the day with a bronze in the u13 boys 800m. Ross recorded a personal best of 2min 27.9sec. Ryan Thomson also made the final finishing 6th, recording a pb of 2min 32.4 sec in the heats.
Michael Rankin also won a bronze in the u15 boys 1500m, recording a pb of 4min 27.2sec.

Thought I'd give a wee update on our weekend.
Racewise, a mixed bag with one PB from the team (Greg Hastie in his first
marathon).
Robert Gilroy was first home from the club in 2.30, an excellent run
considering his lack of background over the winter period, and although
he was disappointed that he didn't go faster, his longest run beforehand
was a half-marathon race!
I was next home in 2.41, a good bit down on what I had hoped for during
the winter, but just wasn't there from early on.
