Ronhill Cambuslang travelled to Aberdeen at the weekend for the National Road Championships. Thanks must go to Michael and Elspeth Hendry and Carolanne Thomson for taking the time to make the trip and overnight stay possible. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and the performance of the athletes made it all the more worthwhile.

Cambuslang duo Stewart Orr and Jack Hamilton running for Scotland West were part of a successful U15 boys team at the UK Inter-counties Championships at Wollaton Park , Nottingham. Scotland West won team gold with both Cambuslang athletes acquitting themselves very well amongst the 280 finishers. After a frantic pace at the start , both lads settled down and worked their way through the field with Stewart finishing 10th (15:24) and Jack in 32nd (15:52) in a high calibre field.

Well done to all of Cambuslang's young athletes who participated at the Scottish Schools Cross Country Championships at Irvine. Our athletes recorded a number of excellent performances in the windy conditions at the Beach Park.
Impressive running from Stewart Orr and Michael Rankin saw both athletes selected for the Scottish Schools team to compete in the S.I.A.B International Cross Country event at Strathallan later this month.

Today we had a large group of our young runners participating in their schools cross country races at Biggar , and we had some great results from our club runners.
Stewart Orr , Caitlin Hendry, and Jack Hamilton all winning Gold Medals in their races.
Michael Rankin, Rebecca Bononi , and Danielle Melville getting silver.
Lucy Deeney... Bronze
Our other runners were just outside medals finishing in places 4, 5, 6, 7,8, 11, in various races.

The more mature members of the club put in some excellent performances at Irvine. We won the team race convincingly with Stevie Wylie 3rd (2nd over 35), Colin Donnelly 4th (1st over 45), Jack Brown 7th (2nd over 45) and Kerry Wilson 9th. Close behind were Greg Hastie 11th and Charlie Thomson 12th (3rd over 40). Archie Jenkins was 2nd over 55 and Sandy Eaglesham did well in his age category too. The team spirit was excellent among our competitors.

Last weekend Cambuslang Harriers performed well at various events on the winter calendar, participating in indoor athletics, cross-country and road racing.
Top performance of the weekend went to one of Cambuslang’s youngest athletes, Ross Stephen. The Hallside youngster won the West District 800m title for under 13s, held at the Kelvin Hall. Ross surged clear of the field with 400metres to go to record a fine victory in the final. Having set personal best times in both heat and final, a delighted Ross can now look forward to next months Scottish Championships.

Cambuslang Harriers………West District Championships
Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers returned jubilant from the West District Cross Country Championships at Irvine Moor recently. The athletes scored a number of successes despite having to tough it out in extreme weather conditions of icy winds and rain.

Cambuslang Harriers travelled to Drumpellier Park for the Lanarkshire Cross Country Championships last weekend .On a day more suited to an afternoon by the fire with a plate of broth, great credit goes to all the athletes who participated in the tough conditions brought on by the poor weather. The conditions did not dampen the spirits of the Cambuslang athletes though, as they went on to have another good day of competition.
