Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers had a good turnout at the Lanarkshire cross country championships at a water-logged Drumpellier Park on Saturday and emerged once again as the top Lanarkshire team overall. Niamh Brown set the standard in the opening event when she came first in the under 11 girls and with good support from Laura McNeil and Lauren Carey the club took team silver.  The under 11 boys equalled this team performance thanks to Grant McGregor, Ryan Stephen and Adam Hamilton. Eve McKinnon finished third in the under 13 girls, in an impressive debut on the country, and led Rachel Black and Hannah Robertson to second team. In the under 13 boys Jack McGregor excelled in first place and inspired his team to victory with strong back up from Keith McIntyre and Joe Brown.  The under 15 girls also packed well together and gained a bronze team medal thanks to Sarah Miller, Rachel Fraser and Lauren Doherty. With Ryan Thomson and Matthew McKenna finishing second and third in the boys’ under 15 event and Ross Stephen seventh, Cambuslang not surprisingly won the team title. Jack Hamilton added icing to the cake with a superb individual victory in the under 17 male race. The final race of the day ended in Chris Wilson finishing a creditable second and leading his team mates Robert Gilroy, John MacNamara and veteran Jack Brown to a narrow team victory over arch rivals Shettleston Harriers.  There was an added bonus as the senior B squad of Andy Steven, Colin Feechan, Mick O’Hagan and John McPake secured team bronze. The club would like to thank all the athletes who took part in such inclement weather and to the support and encouragement given by parents and coaches.
