Congratulations to all our athletes who competed at the National Cross Country Championships at Callendar Park in Falkirk. A day of bright sunshine on frosty ground ensured conditions were ideal for racing and for the spectators. It was encouraging to see such a large turnout of parents and family, athletes and coaches providing support throughout the day.

Jack Hamilton confirmed his status as one of the countries leading U17 endurance athletes by winning an individual silver in the Youths 6km race. He battled hard throughout and finished very strongly to elevate himself from third to runners up spot in the closing stages, capping a fine season for him on the country.
The U17 boy’s team won the only other medals of the day for Cambuslang, just losing out to Giffnock North after an enthralling team contest. With Jack, Andy Hunter, Grant Sheldon, Stewart Orr and Bobby Bristow all inside the top 18 places, the team race swung between both clubs as the race progressed. In the end it was to prove to be a set the silver medals for the defending champions and our congratulations go to Giffnock North.

A field of around 450 athletes started the senior men’s 12km race. Solid performances from Chris Wilson 18th, Robert Gilroy 24th, the ever improving Stuart Gibson in 30th, closely followed by Jamie Reid 31st, Kerry Wilson 43rd and Johnny McNamara in 45th, the guys were a wee bit disappointed to narrowly miss out on the team medals, finishing 4th team

Our misfortune was to continue with the U13 boys, although they can be pleased with the progress that they have made this year. Good running from David Robertson 10th, Jack MacGregor 13th, Keith McIntyre 20th, Joe Brown 33rd, was only good enough for that dreaded 4th place in the team contest. With the depth in this squad, good times surely lie ahead for these lads in the near future.

There were also many other fine individual performances to note. Eve MacKinnon continues to show great potential, Eve finished 11th in the U13 girls race. The U15 boy’s race saw Ryan Thomson and Ross Stephen finish 13th and 29th respectively, with both lads still having another year at this age group the future bodes well. Sarah Millar 25th and Mairi Brown 29th were our top placed girls in the U15 and U17 girls’ races.
