Our young athletes brought the curtain down on their winter season by making the short trip to a picturesque Rouken Glen Park for the National Junior Road Race Championships.
Cambuslang’s youngsters competed well in their respective age groups and were a little unfortunate only to bring home the one set of team medals.
Congratulations go to our U17 boys, winning team silver. Jack Hamilton led the team home in 5th place, followed by Stewart Orr 10th and Andy Hunter 12th.
On a day with ideal spring conditions and bright sunshine throughout, the U13 girls got the competition under way. The girls were lead home by Eve MacKinnon 22nd, and closely followed by the vastly improved Sophie Hayes 30th and Rachel Black in 45th. The girls proved they are coping well at national level by finishing 7th team.
The U13 boys sadly missed out on a team medal when finishing 4th team, beaten narrowly on the countback for bronze by Giffnock North. The results displayed a very tight team contest with 7 points separating the first four teams. Nevertheless the boys acquitted themselves well with a number of fine individual performances. David Robertson 7th and Keith McIntyre 9th can be well chuffed at making the top 10 and it was pleasing to see good support from Joe Brown 20th, Jack McGregor 22nd, Sean Paul Brannan 23rd and Brendan Carey in 34th , underlining the depth we have at this age group.
Rebecca Bonomi produced her best race of the season finishing 12th in the U15 girls event. Backed up with Sarah Miller 20th and Lauren Doherty 38th the girls were placed 5th in the team contest.
The U15 boys finished 4th team. Ross Stephen ran well finishing strongly in 17th, just edging out Matthew McKenna in 18th. The boys packed well with Stuart Roe in 21st place completing the team.
Mairi Brown was our sole representative in the U17 women’s race. Mairi ran positively finishing in good company in 11th place.
